Dylan Kim - Week One Card News
From the 1990s to the present, South Korea has seen a fmeteoric increase in the number of immigrants entering the country.
These people, having been brought in from their native countries of the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, come seeking a better life for themselves. However, some facets of Korean society make this a grueling process.
While the Korean government endorses and supports the incoming population of foreigners, the general public isn’t as embracing it. Having been a country based on its pride in being “pure-blooded,” the fact that foreigners may enter and “taint” Korean purity causes the innate discrimination that many Korean seem to hold.
Children born of these interracial couples are discriminated against by others and face harsh lives for something they have no control over. This problem of discrimination against multicultural families is a serious one and is a problem that may only be resolved through a complete overturn of the general public’s perspective.
