The Multicultural Scene in South Korea

Updated: Aug 27, 2022

Dylan Kim - Week Two Card News

As human society developed, all societies grew to have their own identities.

Some were more diverse than others and some focused more on a specific ethnic minority. However, the cultural identity of South Korea proves itself to be unique. South Korea is a country that prides itself on its singular dominant race. Though some countries today, such as the United States, is built upon the premise of diversity and embracing of cultures, South Korea is a different story.

Each country is able to have a clear idea of how it became diverse. South Korea, on the other hand, cannot, as it resists any government attempt to diversify the region by accepting new immigrants with open arms. The Korean multiculturalism is nothing like that which exists in other countries and is but a farce.

Under the curtain of privacy, many foreigners face bigotry of absurd proportions and faces the Korean general public who is hell-bent on keeping the blood “pure.” To advance forward and become a better society, however, South Korea and its citizens must change their perspectives to be more accomodating.
