Not all drugs react the same way when they are consumed.

Some can make you hyped, relaxed, numb, and even makes you see hallucinations. According to the National Institutes of Health, drugs can be broadly classified into 4 different groups; Depressants, Stimulants, Opioids, and Hallucinogens.

The first type of drug is Depressants which is the most commonly found and can become addictive when overused. Depressants makes the brain slow down and eventually, it makes you feel much more relaxed. For instance, illegal depressants include Xanax, Valium, Luminal, and Ativan.

The second type of drug is stimulants, such as caffeine or nicotine, speed up the body’s central nervous system contrary to Depressants. However, as your body develops a chemical dependence on the substance, substances like caffeine or nicotine could become addictive. For illegal drugs, there are ecstasy and Amphetamines.

Next, a group of medications known as Opioids block or reduce pain.

Opioids include illegal drug heroin, and synthetic opioids fentanyl, and legal drugs like OxyContin, Vicodin, and morphine. These medications are very addicting and can result in abusing prescription medication. Due to the impurities that are frequently present in street heroin and the possibility of using heroin laced with fentanyl, which can be fatal, these drug abusers usually face a danger of death.

Last but not least, Hallucinogens affect perceptions and moods by acting on the central nervous system and brain. LSD is the most well-known and abused hallucinogen. As serotonin levels rise rapidly, your mood might swing dramatically, as can your ability to perceive and interpret inputs. LSD and hallucinogens can lead users to see things that aren't there because serotonin levels rise uncontrollably.
